The nomination of independent candidate Dr. Tasnim Zara for Dhaka-9 constituency has been declared cancelled. Returning Officer and Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Rezaul Karim announced this decision after scrutinizing the nominations on Saturday (January 3).
In immediate reaction to the cancellation of the nomination, Dr. Tasneem Zara announced that she would appeal to the Election Commission. She said that discrepancies were found in the verification of the information of two supporting voters. One of them did not know that he was not a voter of Dhaka-9 constituency. In the case of the other, although he considered himself a voter of that constituency according to the address in the hard copy of the SID, there was a discrepancy in the information of the Election Commission.
It is worth noting that on December 27, Dr. Tasnim Zara announced her resignation from the National Citizens Party (NCP) in a Facebook post and decided to contest the election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9 constituency. She took this decision in the context of the NCP’s electoral agreement with Jamaat-e-Islami.
