After speaking at a public reception organized at the 300 feet area of Purbachal in the capital, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman left for Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara to see his mother and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. He left the reception venue at around 4:18 pm on Thursday.
Earlier, after a journey of about four hours, Tarique Rahman arrived at the reception venue in a red-and-green bus at around 3:15 pm. He delivered a brief speech to the crowd present there.
At the beginning of his speech, he expressed gratitude to the Creator for returning to the country. Later, he asked the countrymen to pray for his mother’s recovery. “As a child, my heart is with my mother who is lying in the hospital,” he said.
Tarique Rahman said that just as the people united and achieved independence in 1971, people from all walks of life have protected the country’s independence and sovereignty in 2024. He said that today the people of the country want to regain their right to speak and democratic rights.
He further said that a safe Bangladesh must be built with people of all religions and communities – where women, men and children can leave their homes safely and return safely. Citing martyr Osman Hadi, he said that it is possible to repay the blood debt of the martyrs only through the establishment of democratic and economic rights.
Emphasizing the role of the younger generation, Tarique Rahman said the country must be built on a strong democratic and economic foundation. “We want peace in the country,” he said.
It is worth noting that the plane carrying Tarique Rahman departed from London, UK, and landed at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport at 9:55 am on Thursday. After a short stop, the plane departed for Dhaka at 11:12 am.
