Protests erupted in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on Tuesday, with some extremists trying to break through barricades and enter. According to local media, the protest was organized in response to a recent incident in Bangladesh.
Indian media outlet NDTV reported that protesters led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal gathered outside the High Commission. They raised slogans with banners and placards, creating tension in the area. Delhi Police quickly tightened additional security to control the situation.
According to the report, several levels of barricades were erected around the High Commission, but some protesters tried to break through them. Police and paramilitary personnel intervened to control the situation. The entire area was kept under tight surveillance.
Security agencies said that precautions were taken in advance to avoid possible violence. A three-tier security cordon was set up around the High Commission building and additional personnel were kept ready to control the crowd.
Hours before the incident, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Pranay Verma met Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam as part of a diplomatic engagement in Dhaka. Diplomatic sources said he was summoned to the Foreign Ministry at 10 am on Tuesday.
