The Indian government has said that misleading information is being spread about the recent protests in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. The country’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the incident has been exaggerated in some media outlets.
In a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (December 21), Jaiswal said that on Saturday, 20-25 youth gathered in front of the High Commission in Mymensingh to protest the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, raised slogans and demanded that the security of minorities in Bangladesh be ensured. However, they never tried to breach the security cordon of the High Commission nor did any kind of security crisis arise.
He said that the police present at the spot dispersed the protesters within minutes. There is also visible evidence in this regard. He also said that India is committed to ensuring the security of all diplomatic missions located in Indian territory as per the Vienna Convention.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal said that India is closely monitoring the current situation in Bangladesh. India has expressed concern over the attacks on minorities and called for those involved in the murder of Dipu Chandra Das to be brought to justice quickly.
