UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the killing of Inqilab Manch spokesman Sharif Osman Hadi and expressed his deepest condolences to his family.
At the same time, he called for a prompt, impartial, and credible investigation in accordance with international human rights standards.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric made the announcement at a regular press briefing at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday (December 19). He said the Secretary-General has called on all parties to refrain from violence and exercise maximum restraint ahead of the upcoming 13th National Assembly elections.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, also expressed concern over the incident. In a statement from Geneva, he said that Hadi’s death from gunshot wounds on December 12 was “deeply concerning”. He warned that retaliation and reprisals would further divide the situation and undermine civil rights.
