The protest that began in Shahbagh on Saturday afternoon demanding justice for the murder of martyr Sharif Osman Hadi has been temporarily suspended.
The protest continued by blocking the road from 4 pm, but at around 5:20 pm, the protesters gave the Home Affairs Advisor a 24-hour ultimatum and left Shahbagh. This allowed traffic to return to normal in the area.
It was seen on the ground that after the funeral and burial at the National Parliament Building, students and the public gathered in a procession at Shahbagh. They chanted various slogans demanding speedy trial and political accountability for the murder.
Speakers at the rally demanded the resignation of Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, saying that if he does not resign within 24 hours, a stricter program will be announced.
Earlier, on Saturday, around 3:30 pm, martyr Sharif Osman Hadi was buried next to the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University. His death caused a day-long atmosphere of mourning and tension across the capital.
