The Office of the Chief Advisor to the interim government has said that the decision to withdraw VAT on the Dhaka Metrorail will result in a revenue loss of about Tk 400 million.
Shafiqul Alam, the chief advisor’s press secretary, gave this information at a press briefing after the advisory council meeting held at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital on Thursday.
He said, “The metro rail has brought new momentum to Dhaka’s transportation, so the decision to waive VAT has been taken in the public interest. Despite the economic loss, the government believes that this initiative will make the movement of city residents easier.”
The meeting was chaired by Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
