Ayesha, a domestic worker arrested in the brutal murder of a mother and daughter in the capital’s Mohammadpur, said in initial interrogation that she committed the murder because she was stopped from stealing. Police arrested her on Wednesday while she was hiding in the Nalchiti area of Jhalakathi.
Police said that after killing Laila Afroz and her daughter Nafisa Binte Aziz, Ayesha fled the house with two laptops and a mobile phone. She sold one laptop, while the other was recovered. She said that the mobile phone was thrown into the water. Ayesha’s husband Rabbi has also been taken into custody.
According to the investigation officers, some belongings went missing from the house the day before the murder. The next day, when the housekeeper, suspicious, told her about the search, Ayesha got agitated and stabbed her to death. When Nafisa came forward, she also hit her.
Laila was killed with more than 30 stab wounds and Nafisa with six stab wounds in the house on Shahjahan Road in Mohammadpur on Monday morning. CCTV shows Ayesha entering the house at 7:51 am wearing a burqa and leaving at 9:35 am wearing a school uniform after the murder.
After the incident, Azizul Islam, the husband of the deceased Laila, filed a case against the housekeeper Ayesha. After a three-day investigation, the police have arrested the main accused, and are investigating whether there was any other reason behind the murder.
