Traffic in the area virtually came to a standstill on Monday afternoon when students from seven colleges in the capital sat on the road leading to the Secretariat from the connecting road next to the Education Building.
The sit-in program, which began around 1:45 pm, saw police barricade the road from the High Court intersection to the Secretariat.
The students said that there is no question of withdrawing from the movement until their one-point demand is implemented. After the protest from noon to night on Sunday, one of the organizers of the movement, Naeem Hawlader, announced that the sit-in would continue overnight. Several students sat at the intersection at night, while others joined in the morning.
Normal traffic in the area is being disrupted due to the ongoing standoff, but police are on alert to keep the situation under control.
