A new political alliance called the National Democratic Front (NDF) has emerged under the leadership of two influential former Jatiya Party leaders—Barristers Anisul Islam Mahmud and Anwar Hossain Manjur. The alliance was announced at a press conference held in Gulshan on Monday.
A total of 20 political parties have joined the NDF . These include the Janata Party Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Trinamool BNP, Bangladesh Cultural Liberation Alliance, Bangladesh Muslim League, National Islamic Grand Alliance, National Reform Alliance and several other smaller parties.
Leaders said the alliance was formed to create an “alternative democratic platform” amid the country’s political turmoil, although no details were given about the alliance’s future political strategy or participation in the elections.
Although the NDF’s announcement has created a new alliance in the political arena, questions still remain about how widespread its impact will be.
