A case has been filed in a Dhaka court against Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominated candidate for Sunamganj-2 constituency, Senior Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
On Sunday, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam recorded the plaintiff’s statement and assigned the police’s Intelligence Department (DB) to investigate the case.
The complaint alleges that in a statement made on a YouTube channel, Shishir Monir compared fasting and Hindu worship as “two sides of the same coin,” which the complainant claims is “derogatory and provocative” to Islamic customs. The complaint further states that the statement spread on social media, causing religious sensitivities and public concern.
Shishir Monir has not yet made any public comment on the matter.
The case is now under investigation by the DB.
