Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has made a major reshuffle in the law and order system of Dhaka ahead of the national elections. On Thursday, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali signed an order to change the OCs of 50 police stations in the capital. The directive said that the transfer will be effective immediately.
Earlier, like the police superintendents of the 64 districts of the country, the police headquarters decided to appoint new OCs to 527 police stations across the country through a lottery. The lottery was conducted from a list of honest and experienced inspectors proposed by unit heads to ensure impartiality during the election.
According to the police headquarters, new OCs have been appointed in 98 police stations in Dhaka range, 111 in Chittagong, 64 in Khulna, 36 in Mymensingh, 46 in Barisal, 39 in Sylhet, 71 in Rajshahi and 62 in Rangpur range. There was no lottery in 110 police stations in the metropolitan area outside the district; the commissioners concerned will make the appointments.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on November 26 to transfer police superintendents of 64 districts through a lottery. This series of changes in the security structure is being seen as part of administrative preparations ahead of the elections.
