The National Consumer Rights Department has fined Laz Pharma Tk 200,000 for selling counterfeit medicines in the Akurtakur Para area of Tangail city. The fine was imposed after suspicious medicines were seized and tested and found to be counterfeit during a raid conducted on Sunday afternoon.
Assistant Director of the department, Asaduzzaman Romel, said the immediate operation was carried out based on a complaint from a local resident. He said, “Fake medicines are a serious threat to public health. Therefore, there is no exemption in this regard.”
LazPharma authorities said that these medicines were mistakenly delivered to the store due to fraud by their supplier, and that is why they paid the fine.
The army, police, and drug administration officials assisted in the operation.
