Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor, has expressed hope that former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising, will be extradited to Bangladesh very soon.
He expressed this expectation in a statement on his verified Facebook page on Friday.
The press secretary said India is already examining the extradition request based on the case filed against Sheikh Hasina. Similarly, ensuring justice for the accused Awami League leaders including Kamal has become the demand of the hour.
He wrote, “No matter how much money is spent, accountability cannot be avoided. Kamal, known as the ‘Butcher of Dhaka’, must be brought to justice.”
According to him, the incidents of genocide, disappearances, and other human rights violations during Hasina’s nearly 16-year rule are attracting more attention in the international community, which will speed up the legal process against the accused.
Shafiqul Alam expressed hope that if the nation is united to ensure justice for all human rights violations, including the July massacre, no criminal will be able to go unpunished.
