People of Bhola living in Dhaka took to Shahbagh on Friday afternoon to demand five points, including the construction of the Bhola-Barisal bridge. The demands include a Bhola-Barisal bridge, a medical university in Bhola, a public university, gas connection, and infrastructure development.
The protesters said that the Bhola-Barisal bridge is their most urgent demand, which could bring about a major change in the communication system in the southern region. According to them, if the bridge is built, economic activities will accelerate, employment opportunities will increase and the suffering of people affected by river erosion will be reduced.
A large procession was held in Shahbagh on Friday as part of a program that has been going on for several days, in which thousands of people participated. The protesters said, “This demand has the support of the entire Bhola people. The government should take initiatives to quickly build the bridge.”
Bhola residents living in Dhaka attended the program with various banners and festoons.
