A fire broke out in a building of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) in the capital’s Shahbagh area before noon on Wednesday. Seven units of the fire service reached the spot immediately after receiving the news of the fire at 11:14 am and started trying to bring it under control.
Fire Service Public Relations Officer Talha Bin Jasim said it is not yet clear in which part of the building and how the fire started. The university premises were quickly evacuated and a security cordon was created.
No casualties have been reported so far in the incident. University officials said classes and administrative activities have been temporarily suspended.
The Fire Service said details about the extent of the damage and the cause will be provided once the fire is under control.
