After a powerful earthquake struck Dhaka and several other regions—killing at least five people and injuring many—Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has directed all relevant agencies to take urgent action.
In a statement issued Friday afternoon, he said the government is closely monitoring the widespread fear and anxiety triggered by the quake. Authorities, including the administration, Fire Service, and disaster management teams, have been instructed to immediately begin assessing the extent of damage on the ground.
The statement added that following initial reports of structural damage from Dhaka and other areas, the Fire Service promptly launched rescue and assistance operations. Citizens have been urged to remain cautious and avoid heeding any rumors or misinformation.
The Chief Adviser also noted that the government will issue additional guidance, including hotlines, if needed.
“The safety of our citizens is our highest priority,” he said.
