  • The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former Bangladesh national cricket captain and former Magura-1 MP Shakib Al Hasan, along with 15 others, for questioning in connection with a case involving the alleged embezzlement of over Tk 256 crore through stock market manipulation.

On Thursday (20 November), ACC Director General Md. Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development to the media.

The ACC DG stated that Mohammad Abul Khayer, also known as Hiru, lured investors through irregularities, corruption, and manipulation in the stock market, causing them financial losses and then layering the illicit funds across various sectors. “A case has been filed against several individuals, including Shakib Al Hasan. As part of the investigation, notices have been issued summoning them for interrogation. Shakib has been asked to appear on 26 November,” he said.

He added that 15 accused individuals, including Shakib, have been summoned for questioning on 25 and 26 November.

Earlier, on 17 June, the ACC filed a case against Shakib Al Hasan, Abul Khayer, and 13 others over allegations of embezzling more than Tk 256 crore through stock market manipulation. Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain filed the case at the ACC’s Integrated District Office in Dhaka.

ACC sources further revealed that an inquiry is also underway regarding allegations that Shakib acquired wealth beyond known income sources. He will be questioned on that matter as well.
