Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin has said the Election Commission (EC) remains firm in its commitment to holding a fair and neutral national election. For this, cooperation from political parties is essential, he added.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (19 November) during a dialogue at the Election Commission Building, where representatives from the BNP and other political parties were present. The CEC urged all political parties to assist the Commission in its efforts.
“We are unwavering in our promise to conduct a beautiful and impartial election,” said the CEC. “But political parties must play their part.”
Nasir Uddin stated that the Chief Adviser has emphasized a festive electoral environment, and the political leaders themselves are the key actors in ensuring that outcome.
“Your cooperation is crucial. With your support, we want to move forward. We are committed to carrying out our duties neutrally and responsibly,” he added.
The CEC noted that voters were reluctant to come to polling stations in the past two or three elections. “If you call them, they will come. Voters are influenced by you. The impact of your appeal is significant. If citizens participate in large numbers, it becomes impossible for anyone to capture polling stations or ballot boxes.”
He urged political parties to mobilize the public, emphasizing that elections must be conducted with the participation of all parties and voters.
Election commissioners, the EC secretary, and leaders from several political parties attended the dialogue.
