In the past 24 hours, six people have died from dengue, the mosquito-borne disease spread by Aedes mosquitoes. With this, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reports that the total number of dengue-related deaths this year has reached 349.
During the same 24-hour period, 788 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, bringing the total number of hospitalizations this year to 87,712.
The information was released on Wednesday (19 November) in a bulletin from DGHS’s Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room.
So far, 84,570 patients who were hospitalized with dengue have recovered and been discharged. Currently, 3,142 patients remain admitted in hospitals nationwide.
DGHS data shows that the highest number of monthly deaths this year occurred in October, with 80 fatalities. In November, the reported death toll so far stands at 71.
In addition, 10 deaths occurred in January and three in February.
There were no deaths in March, while seven occurred in April and three in May. Dengue fatalities increased from June onward—19 deaths in June, 41 in July, and 39 in August.
