Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated that the upcoming February election will be a historic moment for the nation.
He said, “You have arrived in Bangladesh at a time when the country is undergoing a historic transformation—a result of a youth-led movement. We are now preparing for the election, which will play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future.”
On Wednesday (12 November), Dr. Yunus made the remarks during a meeting with a seven-member Canadian parliamentary delegation at the State Guest House Jamuna. The delegation was led by Senator Salma Ataullahjan. During the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening bilateral trade cooperation and potential measures to address the Rohingya crisis.
Regarding the Rohingya issue, Dr. Yunus said, “Eight years have passed since the crisis began, and the only sustainable solution is their repatriation to their homeland. Around 1.2 million Rohingya are currently living in Bangladesh, with an uncertain future.” Senator Salma Ataullahjan reaffirmed Canada’s continued support for the Rohingya issue and emphasized, “This is a serious humanitarian concern, and the world should focus on ensuring their peace and security.
