Fuel sales along roadsides will remain suspended for a certain period, Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced. He said the decision was made because such roadside fuel is often used to commit acts of sabotage.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday, he said that following recent incidents of arson attacks on buses and crude bomb explosions, security has been tightened across the country. Extra measures have been taken to safeguard key installations, including the tribunals, metro rail, and railway infrastructure.
The adviser emphasized that intelligence agencies have not failed and that security forces are working to identify those behind the recent violent incidents.
Regarding election security, he stated that 550,000 Ansar members, 150,000 police personnel, 100,000 members of the armed forces, 35,000 members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and around 4,000 Coast Guard personnel will be deployed during the polls.
He further added that operations to recover illegal firearms will be intensified, with efforts underway to seize remaining weapons swiftly and ensure overall law and order stability.
