Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Muhibbullah Babunagari has called for unity among all Islamic parties except Jamaat-e-Islami, citing ideological differences. “Jamaat’s Islam is not the same as ours. We follow the Islam of Madinah, while they follow the Islam of Maududi,” he said.
He made the remarks on Saturday at a discussion titled “History, Tradition and Contribution of Qawmi Madrasas” and the National Ulema-Mashayekh Conference, organized by Dawat-ul-Ihsan, held at the Engineers Institution in Dhaka.
Babunagari warned that conspiracies are underway against the Muslim community and the country’s sovereignty. He termed the decision to establish a United Nations Human Rights Commission office in Bangladesh as “a threat to religious values and national sovereignty.”
Criticizing Jamaat founder Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, he said Maududi’s ideology is “an internal threat to Islam, more dangerous than Qadianism,” which is easier to identify from outside.
Speakers at the conference included Pakistani scholar Allama Ilyas Gumman, Hefazat Secretary General Maulana Sajidur Rahman, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh Secretary General Maulana Manzurul Islam Afandi.
