BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the key responsibility of the current interim government is to establish a democratic government that is accountable to the people and elected by the people in a fascism-free Bangladesh.
Implementing the partisan interests of any particular group is not the task of this government, he stated.
He made the remarks while addressing the Hindu Representative Conference–2025 as the chief guest, joining virtually from London on Saturday. The event was held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Dhaka, organized by the Matua Bahujan Samaj Oikya Jote.
Tarique Rahman cautioned that political instability in the country could open the door for the return and rehabilitation of the defeated authoritarian forces. He said that these forces may now adopt “covert strategies” to hinder the country’s democratic transition. Therefore, maintaining a strong anti-fascist national unity is essential, he emphasized.
He described BNP as a “peace-oriented, tolerant, and people-focused” political party, adding that respect for political differences has always been part of BNP’s political culture. Ensuring equal political and economic rights for all citizens is central to the party’s ideology, he said.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s religious and cultural diversity, Tarique Rahman said that every citizen, regardless of religion, has equal rights in the country.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir presented the demands of the Hindu community at the event. BNP Standing Committee members Abdul Moyeen Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud also addressed the program.
