  • The former Managing Director (MD) of EXIM Bank, Firoz Hossain, has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He was detained on Thursday (November 6) afternoon from the Segunbagicha area of the capital by a special ACC team led by Assistant Director Shahjahan Miraj.

According to ACC sources, a case was filed on August 17 this year against Firoz Hossain and 21 others on allegations of irregularities in loan disbursement. The case states that a company named Madina Dates and Nuts, in collusion with the bank authorities, misappropriated Tk 858 crore between 2022 and 2025 without any collateral and without actually purchasing any goods.

The charges have been filed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, and Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012. Earlier, on October 1, police had arrested another accused in the same case—Nazrul Islam Majumder, Chairman of Nassa Group—from Gulshan.

Other accused in the case include the proprietor of Madina Dates and Nuts, several former and current officials of EXIM Bank, and former board directors including former independent directors.
