The Advisory Council has approved the list of government holidays for the year 2026. This information was announced by the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam after the council meeting on Thursday (November 6) afternoon.
According to the approved schedule, there will be a total of 28 holidays in 2026. However, 9 of those holidays fall on the weekly holidays Friday and Saturday, which means the effective number of actual holidays will be 19.
Earlier last year, the holiday schedule for 2025 was approved, with a total of 26 holidays. Although the total number of holidays has slightly increased for 2026, the actual usable holidays have decreased due to overlap with the weekly holidays.
Sources in the Advisory Council stated that the final list of holidays will be issued officially, combining general holidays and holidays declared under executive orders. However, no major structural changes have been made in the holiday schedule.
