Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, has stated that the party will not form any political alliance in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary election. However, he left the door open for possible electoral understanding.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (5 November) at Sylhet Osmani International Airport while speaking to journalists.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We will ensure the election is held in February 2026 with everyone together. Without the election, instability and disorder may arise in the country.”
Regarding his foreign visits, he mentioned that expatriate Bangladeshis expressed interest in contributing to the nation-building process. He also noted that despite their significant contributions, proper recognition and respect for expatriates in the country are still lacking.
Commenting on the Awami League’s participation, the Jamaat leader said, “There is no scope for the Awami League in the upcoming election.” He added that the general public is increasingly supportive of elections held under the proportional representation (PR) system.
This visit marks Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s first trip to Sylhet after being elected Amir of the party for the third time. A large number of party members and supporters welcomed him with enthusiasm.
