The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has suspended the nomination of Kamal Jaman Molla, who was set to contest from Madaripur-1 (Shibchar Upazila) in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election. It is believed that his nomination was suspended because he reportedly shouted the slogan “Joy Bangla.” However, the BNP has not officially stated the reason for the suspension.
On Tuesday (November 4), Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed the news through a press release. Kamal Jaman Molla’s name had been included in the list of party nominees announced by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairman’s office in Gulshan on Monday (November 3).
After the nomination announcement, a video went viral on social media in which Kamal Jaman Molla is seen addressing the crowd, saying: “Thank you all, stay well. Long live Tarique Rahman, long live Madam Khaleda Zia, Joy Bangla.” In the video, he also makes a gesture of biting his tongue.
It remains uncertain whether Kamal Jaman will be reinstated in the final candidate list for the election.
