Ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, more than 48,134 police personnel have completed special election duty training. The information was confirmed in a statement issued by the Bangladesh Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the training program has been arranged to enhance the skill, discipline, and professionalism of police members who will be performing election duties. Earlier, from August 31 to September 2, a ‘Training of Trainers (ToT)’ course was conducted. The officials trained in that course are now providing training to field-level police personnel.
Police Headquarters reports that around 150,000 police members will be deployed for election duties across the country. As their activities will be monitored both nationally and internationally, the main objective of the training is to ensure each officer is capable, well-disciplined, and professional in performing their duties.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is closely overseeing the training process. He recently visited training workshops in Rajshahi and Bogura to exchange views with trainees. The training program was formally inaugurated on September 7 at Rajarbagh Police Lines by the Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The training will continue until January.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kazi Zia Uddin, who is responsible for Human Resource Development at Police Headquarters, stated that this is the largest election-related training initiative ever undertaken. The training includes nine modules featuring two documentaries, an audio-visual presentation, a short film, and a handbook. Additionally, plans have been made to prepare 1,292 Master Trainers at 19 training centers, who will later train more than 150,000 police personnel.
Police Headquarters confirmed that all necessary preparations are being made to ensure the upcoming national election is free, fair, neutral, and peaceful. Practical drills are also being conducted to handle any possible situations during the election period.
