In the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, each candidate will be allowed to spend a maximum of Tk 10 per voter in their constituency. If a candidate exceeds this limit, the Election Commission (EC) will be authorized to take legal action against them.
On Monday (November 3), the Law Ministry published the Representation of the People Order (RPO) Amendment Ordinance 2025 in the official gazette.
The latest amendment aims to ensure greater transparency in election spending and political party financing. It also introduces a new requirement for candidates to publicly disclose details of all donations received—to be published on their respective websites.
According to the newly added Article 44, a candidate’s maximum election expenditure is capped at Tk 10 per voter. In addition, Article 13 now requires candidates to submit a security deposit of Tk 50,000 along with their nomination papers, up from the previous Tk 20,000.
The Law Ministry stated that these measures are intended to enhance election transparency, control campaign expenses, and ensure fairness and equality in the electoral process.
