Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has said that the Chief Adviser will make a decision soon regarding the growing political dispute over the proposed referendum. He mentioned that the issue has already been discussed in the Advisory Council, and a final decision is expected very soon.
Speaking at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday (October 30), he said that the ongoing disagreement among political parties even after 270 days of dialogue is disappointing. “Earlier, disputes were over the content; now differences have emerged regarding the referendum itself,” he remarked, adding that the situation has become increasingly tense due to the parties’ confrontational positions.
Dr. Nazrul warned that if any political party tries to impose its unilateral decision on the government, it would go against the “spirit of July.”
He further asserted, “Whatever anyone says, the election will be held in the first half of February.”
The Law Adviser also emphasized that maintaining a peaceful electoral environment is not only the government’s responsibility but also that of all political parties.
