The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has announced that no more than 10 SIM cards can be registered under a single National Identity Card (NID). Starting from tonight, Thursday (October 30), all additional SIMs registered under the same NID will be automatically deactivated.
In a recent emergency notice, BTRC stated that subscribers who have more than 10 SIMs registered under one NID must deactivate or transfer ownership of the extra SIMs through their respective mobile operators by Thursday. After the deadline, any additional SIMs will be automatically cancelled.
Customers will be allowed to keep up to 10 SIMs of their choice. To check how many SIMs are registered under an NID, users can dial *16001# from any mobile operator. After providing the last four digits of their NID, they will receive an SMS showing the total number of registered SIMs and the corresponding operators.
According to BTRC, this initiative aims to ensure greater transparency and security in the country’s mobile telecommunication system.
