Dhaka: A legal notice has been served to the Secretary/Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, demanding BDT 100 million in compensation and a permanent job for a family member of Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed when a metro bearing pad fell in the Farmgate area.
According to the notice, on October 26, two bearing pads fell near Pier No. 433 of the Farmgate Metro Station. One of the pads struck Abul Kalam on the head, killing him instantly. He was the sole breadwinner of his family, which includes his wife and two children, and his younger brother was studying with his financial support.
The notice stated that the accident occurred due to the gross negligence and mismanagement of the metro authorities, who failed to inspect and maintain the infrastructure and equipment, thereby putting public safety at serious risk.
The notice demands that BDT 100 million in compensation and a permanent job for a family member be provided within 30 days. Otherwise, legal action will be taken. It also criticized the metro authorities’ initial offer of only five lakh taka and a job as “insufficient, disrespectful, and unrealistic.”
The legal notice was sent on Tuesday via postal service by Dhaka Judge Court lawyer Enamul Haque Naveen.
