The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued Special Bulletin No. 10 on Tuesday (28 October) regarding Cyclone ‘Montha’. The severe cyclone, currently located in the western-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, is moving further north-northwest.
According to the bulletin, at 12:00 PM, the cyclone was located 1,265 km southwest of Chattogram Port, 1,230 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar, 1,105 km southwest of Mongla, and 1,125 km southwest of Payra. The storm may cross the coast of Andhra Pradesh, India, by this evening or night.
The cyclone’s maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of its center is 90 km/h, increasing up to 110 km/h in gusts. The sea near the cyclone’s center is very rough.
In this situation, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports have been advised to display a Level-2 distant warning signal. Additionally, all fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal are advised to navigate cautiously near the coast and avoid venturing into deep seas until further instructions.
