A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on Samira Haque, wife of late film star Salman Shah, and actor Ashraful Haque Don, one of the accused, in connection with the Salman Shah murder case.
On Monday (October 27), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order following a petition submitted by the investigating officer. The matter was confirmed by Nasir Ahmed, ADC (Administration) of the DMP Prosecution Division.
Earlier, on October 22, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Atikul Alam Khandakar of Ramna Police Station, filed a petition seeking a ban on their foreign travel. In his application, he stated that Samira and Don are fugitives named in the case and that reliable sources had indicated their intention to flee abroad. Their departure could obstruct the investigation and deprive the complainant of justice. Therefore, the officer requested the court to include their names in the “stop list” until the case proceedings are completed.
Notably, after Salman Shah’s mysterious death on September 6, 1996, an unnatural death case was filed at Ramna Police Station. However, on October 20, Judge Md. Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque of Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court accepted the complainant’s revision petition and directed that the case be treated as a murder case.
Subsequently, on October 21, Salman Shah’s uncle Mohammad Alamgir filed the murder case with Ramna Police Station, naming 11 accused, including Samira Haque. The charges were brought under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code for murder and criminal conspiracy.
The other accused are: businessman and former film producer Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Luchi, Don, Debit, Javed, Faruk, Ruby of Mayfair Beauty Center, Abdus Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed Forhad (17).
In addition, several unidentified individuals have also been accused in the case.
