Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has canceled his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia, which was scheduled in response to an invitation from Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to attend the Future Investment Initiative (FII 9) conference in Riyadh. The conference was set to take place from October 27 to 30.
According to the Chief Adviser’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit was canceled due to the current political situation in the country, particularly the implementation of the July Charter and preparations for the upcoming national elections.
In place of Dr. Yunus, the Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy for International Affairs, Dr. Lutfey Siddiqi, will lead the Bangladesh delegation to the conference. He will represent Bangladesh and highlight the country’s investment opportunities and economic potential.
Earlier in July, Saudi Ambassador to Dhaka Dr. Abdullah Jafar bin Abiyah handed over the official invitation letter from the Crown Prince to Dr. Yunus during a meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna. Preparations for the Riyadh visit had been underway since then, and an inter-ministerial meeting was even held to finalize the initial itinerary.
The Future Investment Initiative (FII) is regarded as one of Saudi Arabia’s largest global economic forums, attracting top investors, world leaders, and policymakers each year.
