After 19 months, Bangladesh tasted a home series win in ODIs. In the third and final match, the team, led by Mehedi Hasan Miraz, defeated the West Indies by a massive margin of 179 runs to secure the series.
In the first match, the hosts had won by 74 runs thanks to the spin of Rishad Hossain. However, losing the second match in a Super Over had raised concerns of a fifth consecutive series defeat. In the final match, the spinners’ brilliant bowling erased all doubts for the Tigers.
Chasing 297 runs in Chattogram on Thursday (October 23), the West Indies struggled from the start against Bangladesh’s spinners. All wickets were taken by spinners, led by Nasum Ahmed. Nasum and Rishad claimed three wickets each, while Miraz and Tanvir Islam took two apiece.
The visitors lost 3 wickets for just 35 runs early in the innings. Later, Tanvir and Rishad’s spin bowling brought the West Indies’ lineup crumbling, and the team was bowled out for 117 runs.
With this win, Mehedi Hasan Miraz secured his first series victory as captain against the West Indies. Previously, Bangladesh had last won a home ODI series in March 2023 against Sri Lanka in Chattogram.
