The recent sharp decline in gold prices on the international market has had a direct impact on Bangladesh’s domestic market. As a result, the price of gold has dropped by Tk 8,386 per bhori. However, even after the reduction, high-quality gold still costs over Tk 200,000 per bhori.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced the new prices in a statement issued on Wednesday night (October 22). The revised rates took effect today, Thursday (October 23).
According to BAJUS, the adjustment was made following a decrease in the price of pure (tejab) gold in the local market.
The new prices are as follows:
22-carat gold: Tk 208,996 per bhori
21-carat gold: Tk 199,501 per bhori
18-carat gold: Tk 170,994 per bhori
Traditional method: Tk 142,219 per bhori
BAJUS also noted that a 5% government VAT and a 6% minimum making charge must be added to the base price. The making charge may vary depending on the jewelry’s design and quality.
Meanwhile, silver prices have also dropped. The price of 22-carat silver has fallen from Tk 6,205 per bhori to Tk 5,470, marking a decrease of Tk 735 per bhori.
