A shocking incident has taken place at Mymensingh Medical College (MMCH), where a young woman’s body was allegedly raped inside the morgue. Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth named Abu Sayeed, who worked as a body carrier under the Haluaghat Police Station. He was sent to jail through the Mymensingh Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday (October 22).
According to police, the incident occurred around 1:30 PM on October 20. The accused, Abu Sayeed, is the son of Zainal Abedin of Khondokpara village under Haluaghat upazila.
On October 19, a 20-year-old woman from Ghoshber village of Haluaghat reportedly took her own life by hanging. Police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy to MMCH morgue, with Abu Sayeed assigned to transport it. When the victim’s relatives were not present at the morgue, Abu Sayeed took the opportunity to sexually assault the corpse.
Later, the attending forensic doctor informed police that fresh semen had been found in the woman’s genital area, suggesting she had been raped post-mortem. Following this, Sub-Inspector (SI) Jamal Mia of Haluaghat Police, acting on secret information, detained Abu Sayeed from Pathagar Mor area on October 21. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.
Confirming the incident, Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shibirul Islam said a case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Abu Sayeed gave a confessional statement before the court, admitting his involvement in the crime.
