During a raid in the Bashundhara Residential Area of Dhaka, Shahadat Quader (58), the younger brother of Awami League Secretary General Obaidul Quader, whose activities have been banned, was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB).
According to DB sources, leaflets and mobile phones of the banned organization were seized from the arrested individuals. Preparations are underway to file cases against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Besides Shahadat Quader, those arrested include Masud Rana, Habibur Rahman, Kaiyum Mia, Selim Uddin, Ariful Islam, Shahidul Haque, Zakir Hossain, and Fazlul Karim.
It is worth noting that Shahadat Quader had previously been at the center of controversy for assaulting an official at the electricity office in Basurhat, Companiganj, Noakhali, by cutting his hair. He also attracted attention during the last Upazila Parishad election when he ran for chairman and got involved in a conflict with his elder brother, Obaidul Quader.
