Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has stated that the upcoming election in Bangladesh will be the first free and fair election in the last 16 years. He described it as a “real and transformative moment” for the country.
On Monday (October 13), during a sideline meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy, at the World Food Forum (WFF), he made these remarks.
Dr. Yunus said,
“The elections held in the past 16 years were orchestrated by authoritarian governments. This time, the people will participate in a genuinely inclusive election.”
During the meeting, the Brazilian President invited the Chief Adviser to attend the COP30 conference. However, Dr. Yunus mentioned that due to preparations for Bangladesh’s general election in the first half of February 2025, he may not be able to attend.
He also emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation and trade between Bangladesh and Brazil.
Furthermore, Dr. Yunus extended an official invitation to President Lula to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time. President Lula accepted the invitation and expressed his interest in visiting within February, stating that the visit would strengthen economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
