Police have obstructed the sit-in program of MPO-listed teachers and staff in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka. Law enforcement used sound grenades to disperse the protesters.
The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday (October 12).
According to sources, members of the MPO-Listed Education Nationalization Alliance were staging a continuous sit-in, demanding implementation of promises made by the Education Adviser — including a 20% house rent allowance, a medical allowance of Tk 1,500, and a 75% festival bonus for staff.
Earlier, around 9 a.m., teachers and staff from across the country gathered and began their sit-in in front of the Press Club. The demonstrators announced that if their demands were not met, they would start a work stoppage from next Tuesday.
Due to the protest, traffic movement on the road adjacent to the Press Club remained suspended for several hours.
