Legendary Dhallywood actor and founder of the Nirapad Sarak Chai (Safe Roads) movement, Ilias Kanchan, is currently battling a brain tumor. After undergoing surgery in August, he is now receiving treatment at Harley Street Clinic in London under the supervision of oncologist Dr. Vinaya.
Although news of Kanchan’s illness became public in September, his long-time co-star Rozina revealed that she had known about it much earlier — since July.
“I found out in July that Kanchan had been diagnosed with a brain tumor,” Rozina said. “I was in London at the time but couldn’t meet him because I had to go to Canada. However, I stayed in touch with his family and kept updated on his treatment.”
Later, in mid-September, Rozina met Kanchan in London. Sharing her experience, she said, “When I returned to London from Canada, I visited Kanchan’s daughter’s home. That’s when I met him. We talked, took pictures, and spent some time together. Although he was physically weak, I found him mentally very strong.”
She added, “Despite his illness, Kanchan prays regularly. He speaks slowly but clearly. Since the problem is in his brain, he sometimes forgets things—but overall, I found him doing well.”
Paying tribute to her co-actor, Rozina said, “I’ve acted with Kanchan in many films. His dedication, love for work, and perseverance have kept him alive in the hearts of audiences even today. As a person, he is humble, polite, and deeply compassionate.”
She further added, “While many in the film industry have faced criticism for various reasons, Kanchan has always remained honest and positive. He performed Hajj, and his ‘Nirapad Sarak Chai’ movement reflects his deep sense of humanity.”
It should be noted that false rumors about Ilias Kanchan’s death recently spread online. His son, Mirajul Moin Joy, urged everyone not to believe such rumors, saying, “My father is under treatment and recovering. Please don’t pay attention to any rumors—pray for his quick recovery instead.
