Tension erupted in front of the Jatiya Party’s central office in Kakrail, Dhaka, during a scheduled workers’ rally. Clashes broke out between party activists and police, accompanied by the sound of sound grenade explosions. Police later fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
Party chairman GM Quader was quickly escorted away from the scene for security reasons.
The incident took place around 3:30 PM on Saturday (October 11). GM Quader had called the emergency rally to discuss the upcoming national election, alleged conspiracies over the party’s electoral symbol, and other political issues. However, the rally turned chaotic shortly after it began.
Earlier, the rally started from a makeshift stage set up on a truck. Senior party leaders, including GM Quader and Shamim Haider Patwary, were present on the stage. Activists from different areas joined the gathering in processions, while a large number of police personnel were deployed in the surrounding area to maintain order.
