This year, the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai. The Swedish Academy announced that he received the honor for his compelling and visionary writing, which reaffirms the power of art even amidst apocalyptic terror.
Krasznahorkai has previously won numerous international literary awards, including the 2015 Man Booker International Prize and the 2013 Best Translated Book Award for his postmodern novel Satantango.
He is the second Hungarian writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature; the first was the late Imre Kertész in 2002.
The Nobel laureate will receive a Nobel medal, a diploma, and 11 million Swedish kronor, which is approximately 142 million Bangladeshi taka.
Since 1901, the Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded 117 times to a total of 121 writers, including 18 women. On four occasions, the prize was shared by multiple recipients.
