Israeli aggression in Gaza has completed two years on Tuesday (October 7), yet the brutal attacks in the blockaded territory show no signs of stopping.
Despite global pressure, U.S. President Donald Trump has already proposed a 20-point plan to establish a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, assuring that a lasting peace agreement is achievable soon.
Discussions for implementing a ceasefire are underway in Egypt, involving representatives from Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas. However, amid the talks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning, stating that the offensive in Gaza will continue until all Israeli objectives are met, including prisoner releases, the dismantling of Hamas rule, and ensuring Gaza does not pose a future threat to Israel.
On the same day, Trump remarked at the White House that a “realistic opportunity” for a Gaza deal has emerged. The second day of talks in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, concluded, with discussions set to continue on Wednesday, including senior officials from Qatar and the United States.
Several Palestinian organizations, including Hamas, issued a joint statement asserting they will “resist by any means” and emphasizing that no one has the right to disarm the Palestinians. Hamas leader Fauzi Barhum stated that they seek the end of the war and full withdrawal of Israeli forces.
The talks also covered the timeline for prisoner releases and military withdrawals. According to Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, they place no trust in Israel and demand real guarantees for a complete cessation of hostilities. History has shown that Israel has not always honored its promises, and experiences in previous Gaza conflicts have proven this twice.
