Cloud cover is once again thickening across the skies of Bangladesh. Although the monsoon winds remain weak, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has warned that various regions of the country may experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds over the next five days.
In a forecast issued on Wednesday morning (October 8), signed by meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruq, it was noted that the northern extension of the monsoon trough stretches from various regions of northern India to the southern parts of Bangladesh. At present, the monsoon winds over the country are less active, while over the northern Bay of Bengal, they range from weak to moderate.
The forecast further states that on Wednesday, scattered light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in some areas of all eight divisions—Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Some areas may even experience moderately heavy rainfall.
The same weather pattern is expected to continue from Thursday (October 9) through Saturday (October 11), with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms predicted in most divisions.
While some areas of the Khulna division may experience thunderstorms on Sunday (October 12), weather across other regions of the country is expected to gradually become dry.
The meteorological department’s forecast also indicates that rainfall intensity may decrease over the next five days, and the southwesterly monsoon winds could gradually retreat from the western regions of the country. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged during this period.
