Former Industries Minister and ex–Member of Parliament for Narsingdi-4, Advocate Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, has passed away. He breathed his last on Monday morning at 7 a.m. while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).
According to the Prison Directorate and Dhaka Medical Police Camp, Humayun fell ill while in prison custody. On September 27, he was admitted to the hospital after his condition deteriorated, later being transferred to the ICU, where he died.
Last year, he was arrested in connection with cases filed over attacks, killings, and vandalism during the anti-discrimination student movement in Narsingdi.
In his political career, Humayun was first elected to parliament in 1986 as an Awami League candidate from Narsingdi-4. He later won seats in the 9th, 10th, and 11th national elections. He served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, later as chairman of the committees on Expatriates’ Welfare and Commerce, and finally as the Minister of Industries in the 11th parliament.
