At the event “NRB Connect Day: Empowering Global Bangladeshis” in New York, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir highly praised Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He said Dr. Yunus had set a rare example by participating in the UN General Assembly alongside leaders of all political parties. This, according to Fakhrul, showed the world that Bangladesh remains united in carrying forward the post-uprising agenda.
Fakhrul described Dr. Yunus as a farsighted leader with worldwide recognition. He said Dr. Yunus wants to take the country to a desired height, which was also the dream of late President Ziaur Rahman. “I see the reflection of our party’s founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, in Dr. Yunus,” Fakhrul remarked. He further expressed hope that whichever government emerges from the free and fair elections, expected in five months, will also work to move the country forward.
Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus delivered the keynote speech at the event, which was also attended by Bangladeshi political leaders traveling with him. The program began with a presentation by Bangladesh Investment Development Authority’s Executive Chairman, Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud bin Harun, who highlighted the country’s economic progress in the 15 months since the July uprising. He thanked expatriates for their contribution to more than 21% growth in remittances and underscored the government’s initiatives to create an investment-friendly environment.
A panel discussion titled “Bridging Borders: Current Affairs and Diaspora Engagement” was also held, moderated by Dr. Yunus’s Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi, with participation from Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser on Expatriate Welfare, among others. Leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizens Party (NCP) shared their emotional perspectives on Bangladesh’s political vision in the post-uprising context.
Additionally, National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman moderated another panel, “Shaping Tomorrow: The Future of Bangladesh.” Leaders from BNP, Jamaat, and NCP joined the discussion, outlining their political and social visions for the future of the nation. The lively event created a meaningful platform for dialogue between Bangladesh’s political leadership and the expatriate community.
