Police have arrested 244 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations from flash processions in different areas of the capital.
The information was confirmed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md. Nazrul Islam at a press briefing held at the DMP office on Wednesday afternoon.
He stated that attempts were made to stage sudden processions in several parts of Dhaka, but law enforcement, aided by intelligence personnel and local residents, managed to detain the participants. Police also recovered 14 crude bombs (cocktails) and 60 banners from those arrested.
Nazrul Islam further said that earlier, more than 500 leaders and activists had already been arrested from similar flash processions, all of whom have been brought under the law.
